"The House of Prayer Achill
brought me back to the faith"

by Fiona Caherty, Co Armagh, N. Ireland

"My desire to go back the Our Lady Queen of Peace House of Prayer Achill was overwhelming. Within 2 or 3 weeks I made it and that is when I very slowly started to turn my life back to God. This was also the day of my first confession in approximately 10 years.”

My first introduction to Christina Gallagher and the House of Prayer was back in 1996 when as part of a youth group, we visited the House of Prayer. I was 21 years old and was more concerned with ‘living’ my life, and having plenty of fun rather than religion. On that day Christina met with our group in a separate room and spoke of the many dangers facing the youth of today. I bought the book 'Please Come back to Me and My Son' and took a great interest in reading it when I got home. It didn't last very long though. On settling back into college life I soon forgot about Our Lady's call. Over the next 10 years my faith meant attending Mass on a Sunday and even missing it on occasions, and seeing nothing wrong with this, and extra prayers were only ever said in a time of need.

In February 2006 a member of my family had a slight accident. Although he recovered within minutes I was badly shaken. Lying in bed that night all I could think about was the House of Prayer, and I hadn't thought of it in years. My desire to go back was overwhelming. Within 2 or 3 weeks I made it to the House of Prayer and that is when I very slowly started to turn my life back to God. This was also the day of my first confession in approximately 10 years. I bought several of the books that day 'Please Come back to Me and My Son', 'Out of the Ecstasy and onto the Cross', 'The Sorrow, the Sacrifice and the Triumph'. Each evening when I came home from work I felt compelled to read more.

There were many tears. So many emotions were running through my head, most especially the regret I felt for not giving more of my life to Jesus and Mary after my first visit. It was through reading these books that Our Lord and Our Blessed Mother became real to me.

Over the next few months I visited the House of Prayer a couple of times and then in September 2006 I planned another visit. As it turned out this date was to be the 9th Saturday of a Novena, which I hadn't known about. I knew from there on I was going to commit to attending this special Novena, which thank God is still continuing to this day. I began the Novena for my own personal needs but I have been taught at the House of Prayer how to surrender all worries to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, and so I now attend in response to the call of My Heavenly Mother.

I thank Our Lord and Our Blessed Mother for the many blessings in my life, for the gift of the House of Prayer in Achill and a special thank you to Christina and Father for accepting this great mission to save countless souls.
